Safety in North Florida
Safety by the Numbers
North Florida cities may be small, close-knit communities with lower traffic than major metropolitans, but that doesn’t make safety any less of a priority. Regional agencies and state agencies work to educate and create new policies and best practices to ensure secure living environments — from schools to workplaces and everywhere in between.
Your physical and emotional well-being are important here, too, with well-funded programs that aid when hardships strike and organizations that protect against discrimination.

An Environment Where Everyone Thrives
North Florida offers strong communities where it’s not uncommon to be on a first-name basis with everyone from the local grocery clerk to the head librarian. The region is also diverse, with more than 19% identifying as Black — an increase beyond the national average of 12.6%. Organizations like Florida Rising also advocate for legislative changes to protect the rights of marginalized communities throughout the state.
Equipped for Worst-Case Scenarios
While the Northern counties of Florida are typically less prone to severe weather and hurricanes, the region still has numerous safeguards in place to equip residents in emergency situations. Putnam County is well-prepared in the event of a natural disaster and is a part of the National Weather Service StormReady Program. Madison County’s Code Red Weather Warning service is designed to alert residents of severe weather hours before impact.
The Keys to Keystone County
If you’re looking for a less anxious drive to the worksite with less traffic and shorter commutes, North Florida has you covered. Jefferson County offers few traffic lights, allowing you to seamlessly travel from the Georgia border to the Gulf of Mexico. Known as the Keystone County for its gateway to other states, North Florida also offers The North Florida Safety Council — an agency which increases traffic safety throughout the region and offers Occupational Safety & Health Courses.
